Due to company wide growth and expansion into new electric markets, Washington Gas Energy Services, Inc. (WGES) is looking to hire a Structure Analyst to join our Electric supply team.
WGES is a subsidiary of WGL Holdings, and is an affiliate of a company that has served the Washington metropolitan area for over 160 years, Washington Gas. WGES is one of the largest and most experienced energy suppliers in the Mid-Atlantic region with over one billion dollars in annual revenue. Our customers include small and large commercial accounts as well as residential accounts. We sell natural gas and electricity, including wind-powered electricity. All residential electricity supplies provided by WGES include regional wind power as part of the supply portfolio, above the levels required by local legislation, and WGES has been a leading supplier of wind power to federal, state and local governments as well as to private companies. WGES recently partnered with a local solar energy company and electrical construction firm to build one of the largest solar power systems in Maryland. As energy markets become deregulated and new energy options become available, WGES continues to grow at a steady pace.
At WGES, a Structure Analyst:
- Works with Quantitative, IT and Operations staff to develop, maintain and utilize a retail pricing model that incorporates load shape, PJM and wholesale market costs.
- Monitors current market conditions to seek opportunities to maximize margins
- Coordinates pricing for retail RFPs.
- Submits pricing on on-line auction platforms for time sensitive RFP’s.
- Researches PJM and Electric Distribution Company tariffs in new power markets to understand market rules/procedures and pricing risks related to generation, transmission and distribution costs in support of retail electric sales and wholesale power purchases strategies.
- Understands and assesses the impact of state regulatory SOS process on retail price offers.
- Understands and improves current models and data flow between WGES and the electric utilities.
- Understand, analyze and develop pricing for risks associated with customized electric price offers
Job Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will need to have:
- Minimum of 3 years electricity industry experience, including 1 year electricity product structure experience.
- Working knowledge of electric utility tariffs and PJM markets.
- Minimum 2 years of working experience in Excel/VBA. Access, SQL , and Oracle experience a plus.
- BS/BA in Engineering, Finance, Math, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline. MBA preferred.
- Working knowledge of physical energy business or energy commodities
- Working knowledge of applying financial markets theory and derivatives
- Working knowledge of wholesale trading, PJM and other regional energy markets
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be creative and work in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to multi-task successfully to meet daily deadlines and work with deal-closing related uncertainties.
- Ability to work independently, complete routine and ad hoc requests without direction from management
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
