Job Description

Due to company wide growth and expansion into new electric markets, Washington Gas Energy Services, Inc. (WGES) is looking for a qualified candidate to join our team in Herndon, Virginia as our next Electricity Analyst!

WGES is a subsidiary of WGL Holdings, and is an affiliate of a company that has served the Washington metropolitan area for over 160 years, Washington Gas. WGES is one of the largest and most experienced energy suppliers in the Mid-Atlantic region with over one billion dollars in annual revenue. Our customers include small and large commercial accounts as well as residential accounts. We sell natural gas and electricity, including wind-powered electricity. As energy markets become deregulated and new energy options become available, WGES continues to grow at a steady pace.
In this integral role you will:

  • Assist with pricing, load shape assessment and transaction structuring.
  • Prepare data for monthly invoices for WGES customers requiring non-standard invoicing
  • Work to completely understand current models and data flow between WGES and electric utilities.
  • Assist with retail pricing model and forward curve updates.
  • Maintain systems to document all renewable energy credit wholesale transactions as necessary.
  • Track and forecast renewable retail load requirements and maintain WGES’ position report for state RPS compliance and voluntary obligations.
  • Track solar generation and support billing related to WGES solar facilities.
  • Reconcile energy use and retail book positions to ensure accurate load projections.
  • Follow through with detailed analysis to validate that actual transaction data matches expected results.
Job Qualifications

To be successful in this position you will need to have:

  • Minimum of 3 years strong data analysis experience; electricity industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in Excel. VBA, Access, SQL, and Oracle experience is a plus.
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Finance, Math, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science or other quantitative discipline. MBA is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and work in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to successfully meet daily deadlines and work with deal-closing related uncertainties and tight time frames.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; while seeing the “bigger picture”.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in small teams while completing ad hoc requests
  • Working knowledge of physical energy business or energy commodities is a plus
  • Working knowledge of applying financial markets theory and derivatives is a plus
  • Project management skills and experience is a plus
